Is it possible for someone who visits a rehabilitation center to qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance?

Attending a rehabilitation center should not immediately void your eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.

However, the Social Security Administration requires that your disability be defined as “permanent,” which means it must be expected to persist longer than 12 months and impair your ability to perform basic work-related activities.

If the SSA believes that you will be able to acquire gainful employment within 12 months, or if your health improves to the point where an SSA medical evaluation certifies that you are fit to work, you may forfeit your benefits.

If you are currently enrolled in a rehabilitation program and have been denied SSDI, or if you are considering applying for the first time, call a knowledgeable Social Security attorney immediately.
